Goombay Backpacking & Camping Trip

THE GOOMBAY ANNUAL FALL BACKPACKING & CAMPING TRIP

October 14-15, 2017

George Washington National Forrest, Front Royal, VA

Cost: $25 per camper

includes: guides, food, water & basic camp gear.

Backpacks and tent rentals may also be rented through Goombay during registration or you can bring your own equipment.  Equipment can also be rented at a local outfitters such as REI.

Departure Information from DC

8:10am

Oxon Hill Park & Ride

Route 414, Oxon Hill, MD 20785

(near the entrance of the Tanger Outlets)


9:30am

The Rural King Parking Lot

465 South St. * Front Royal, VA 22630

* Those campers not meeting at the Oxon Hill Park & Ride can drive directly to Front Royal and meet us in the Rural King Parking Lot.


CAR POOL

If you would like to car pool with another camper please indicate that during the online registration process.

Weekend Social Itinerary


SATURDAY:

8:30am

Meet up at the Oxon Hill Park & Ride and proceed to Front Royal, VA
 

9:30am

Stop at the Rural King in Front Royal for any last minute supplies & rest room needs


11:00am

Arrive at the Trailhead, pack packs and prepare to hike


12:00pm

Begin hike to the campsite


3:00pm - 4:00pm

Arrive at camp site and set up tents, collect wood, unwind & prepare dinner


6:00pm

Dinner


8:00pm - 12:00am

Social time around the campfire


SUNDAY:

8:00am

Arise, eat breakfast and strike camp


10:00am

Depart for the trail head


11:00pm

Arrive at the trail head, pack cars and depart


11:45pm

Arrive at the Apple House for lunch (optional) and to drop off trash


1:30pm

Arrive in DC


SPECIAL NOTE:

  1. *At the camp site there is a very clean out house

  2. *The hike is 4 miles and some sections of the trail is strenuous

  3. *YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN COOK KIT, CUP & UTENSILS

  4. *We pack out all trash and pack in all water

1-2 Personal Water Bottles or Camel Pack

Head Lamp (flash light)

Small First Aid Kit

Cook Kit & Eating utensils

(plate, cup, mug for coffee fork & knife)

Wet Wipes

Small roll of Toilet Paper

2-3 large trash bags

Toiletries 

Hand warmers *

Stool or Small Folding Chair *

Paper towels in a Zip Lock bag

Small pillow *


1-2 pair of light weight paints (NO JEANS)

2-3 T-Shirts (short sleeve & long)

1 Set of long underwear or Under Armor

2 Pair of socks (wool is best)

1 pair of hiking boots or trail sneakers

Hat or scarf

Gloves

1 Light weight rain jacket or poncho

1 Fleece pullover or warm jacket

Sleep wear

The weather in the mountains are 10 degrees colder then the city, please dress warm
